Tite formalizes withdrawal from selection amid search for new coach

Coach Tite formalized this Tuesday (17) his departure from the CBF. The future of the coach from Rio Grande do Sul is uncertain. His idea is to work in Europe, but training a new team, starting a new cycle, is also seen with good eyes by his commission.

Assistants Matheus Bachi, son of Tite, and César Sampaio want to be coaches. Cleber Xavier, assistant, should remain on the commission. Tite goes on a sabbatical before returning to work.

With distant dreams and no unanimity, President Ednaldo Rodrigues finds it difficult to define the replacement. The CBF prefers a foreign technician with “unquestionable” status and, preferably, who speaks Portuguese or Spanish.

These features narrow down the options. Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola of Spain and Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti of Italy are unavailable. Guardiola showed no interest after an initial contact from the CBF. Ancelotti wants to fulfill his contract at Real until 2024.

CBF’s preference continues to be for foreigners, but the entity does not currently rule out options in Brazil. Among those quoted, Fernando Diniz, Dorival Júnior, Cuca and Mano Menezes have not been sought so far. Multi-champion at Palmeiras, the Portuguese Abel Ferreira was also not invited, despite having enthusiasts in the confederation. The idea is to define the technical command in February. The next FIFA-date is in March.
