Tinder agrees to alert police about scams – 07/06/2023 – Cotidiano

The company responsible for the Tinder dating app signed an agreement with the Public Ministry of São Paulo to communicate to the police and Justice about crimes committed through the platform.

The company announced for July 10 the creation of a communication channel in Portuguese, operating 24 hours a day and seven days a week, to serve police authorities, prosecutors and judges, according to a note from the Public Prosecutor’s Office released this Thursday (6). ).

Corporation that responds for Tinder, Match Group confirmed the agreement, but did not mention in the note sent to Sheet the details reported by the Public Ministry.

Between January and the end of June, 27 cases of crimes against Tinder users were registered in São Paulo.

Victims are often men between the ages of 30 and 50 who are lured into fake encounters. Arriving at the ambush site, they are kidnapped and forced to transfer money to criminals.

The agreement was signed after the Gaesp (Group for Specialized Action in Public Security) launched a civil inquiry to assess the Tinder application’s duty to collaborate with police authorities in relation to news of crimes that occurred in the online dating space.

Through the tool, it will be possible to request information to comply with court orders, such as location data of victims of crimes in progress and of criminal agents responsible for their practice, provided that legal parameters are respected.

The company also assumed a commitment to reinforce its messages to users in Brazil about security issues, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Match Group also stated in a note that it is looking for ways to improve processes and communication in the regions where it operates.

“In the coming months, we will establish a new collaboration channel for sharing data with Brazilian authorities in order to help simplify and streamline the process of responding to requests from police authorities”, communicated the platform.
