Monday’s event in Brasília will mark the first year since the infamous attack on the institutions of the democratic regime. It is important that this January 8, 2024 is not lost in history, that it is repeated over time and what happened in 2023 is immortalized in the nation’s memory.
The uprising against the headquarters of the three Powers of the Republic must become unforgettable in the minds of Brazilians, whatever their political, emotional, religious tendencies or whatever stage of emotional exacerbation they are in.
What happened there affects everyone. It is essential, therefore, that the understanding of this whole reaches primarily authorities responsible for the smooth running of the work of the Republic. Both those linked to the government and those in opposition.
In democratic dynamics, positions tend to alternate from time to time. From this perspective, the Rule of Law is a general rule of survival. Therefore, it would not be convenient to use the partisan political ceremony for the ceremony the day after tomorrow, much less if it were disguised as an ideological war, also called polarization.
The celebration of the health of democracy cannot be seen or presented as a heritage of current rulers and their supporters inside and outside the State apparatus. The consideration works for them and it also works for opponents who plan absence as a way of making an opposition statement.
There are no nuances in the issue of institutional health: either you form ranks in defense of it or you are against it, outside the Constitution in force in the country. The sentences already imposed on the uprisings and the punishments that are yet to be imposed on the inciters, sponsors and inspirers give news of this.
The more robust and politically broad the act of the 8th, the greater the understanding that legality cannot be messed with, the less possibility of the infamy being repeated.
