Thieves break into Fittipaldi’s home in Italy and cause millionaire damage

Former Brazilian driver Emerson Fittipaldi was the target of a crime in Italy this week. The two-time Formula 1 world champion had his home invaded in the town of Soiano del Lago, in the province of Brescia. According to the Italian press, Fittipaldi suffered a loss equivalent to R$ 1.3 million.

According to the newspaper Corriere della Sera, the invasion took place when there was no one in the Brazilian’s house. The thieves would have taken a Rolex watch and gold jewelry, causing damage estimated at 250 thousand euros, something around R$ 1.3 million, at the current exchange rate. Fittipaldi has not publicly commented on the theft.

At 76, the Brazilian has lived in Italy for a few years. In 2022, he even ran for the Italian Senate in the parliamentary elections held in September. However, he ended up being surpassed by the Argentine Mario Alejandro Borghese in the dispute for a single vacancy for representatives of South America in the Italian Congress.

Just last year, Fittipaldi won the news because of the debts he accumulated in recent years. In June, the Justice of São Paulo decided to seize assets such as cars and trophies of the former pilot because of a debt with Sax Logística de Shows e Eventos. The company was contracted to provide services in the “6 hours of São Paulo” racing event, held in 2012. Among the goods was the 1976 Copersucar car, from Escuderia Fittipaldi, the only Brazilian team in the history of F-1.

In an interview with Estadão, in 2020, the two-time world champion promised to settle all his debts in the medium term. And he assured that he was working to achieve this goal.

“First of all, I never hid any assets. I’ve already paid a lot of debt back and I’m paying and I’m going to liquidate everything. The guys invented this thing, it left me with a terrible image, it was something diabolical, and that has nothing to do with reality. Unfortunately, they used my image to gain an audience and are destroying my image”, said Fittipaldi when complaining about news that he considered sensational about his debts.
