Violation of the right will be punishable by a fine equivalent to up to ten times the value of the ticket.
Manaus (AM) — State deputy Thiago Abrahim (União Brasil) presented, this Monday (3), at the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), bill nº 578, which guarantees special seats for people with morbid obesity in intercity river transport services in the Amazon.
“3% of the total available seats will be made available to people with morbid obesity, provided that the ticket is purchased 48 hours in advance of the scheduled time for the trip. In addition, it is prohibited to charge obese people additional amounts for intercity river transport tickets”
said Abrahim in his rationale.
According to the parliamentarian, the violation of the right of the obese person to equality dealt with in this law will be punishable with a fine in an amount equivalent to up to ten times the value of the ticket.
“On flights, for example, morbidly obese passengers, who require the occupation of more than one seat on the aircraft, have to purchase two tickets, otherwise they will be invited to disembark if they cannot occupy just one seat. This is absurd and disrespectful to the consumer who suffers from chronic illness. We need to adapt and guarantee that people from Amazonas, who use river transport a lot, have their right to come and go assured”
concluded Thiago Abrahim.
