The story that politics moves at the pace of the clouds is not just a cliché. It’s an expression of reality: we look, it’s one way, and the next minute it’s another.

This is what happens in the pre-election situation in São Paulo, where a consolidated dispute was emerging between Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) and Ricardo Nunes (MDB). Now nothing is certain anymore.

When it comes to elections, it is never advisable to take anticipated scenarios as definitive. The research, which is not a Delphic oracle, has not yet registered any changes, but the entry of new and significant characters on the scene indicates the possibility of twists and turns.

Until the other day, Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) considered his support for the mayor’s re-election unshakable. A week ago, he signaled a possible review of the agreement. You don’t want to get into a split ball.

On the right, the balls were divided when Jair Bolsonaro gave a shout-out to Ricardo Salles (PL), calling him “mayor”, but he continues back and forth. Tabata Amaral (PSB) nodded to this camp by calling José Luiz Datena for his tenth party affiliation. A persistent quitter, Datena says she’s going now: “I’m with the right people.”

One of these people is none other than vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), who has already stood on the front line of Tabata in the arena opposite that of president Luiz Inácio da Silva, an extremely qualified electoral campaigner for Boulos’ campaign, to whose ticket Lula tries to attract Marta Suplicy back to the PT.

There has never been an election in the capital of São Paulo with vice and president of opponents. Just as we have never seen PT members without their own candidacy, just as it is unprecedented for the Tucanos to be out of the game for now.

Once dominant in the territory, they are indecision whether to go with Mayor Nunes, board Congresswoman Tabata’s canoe or defend their legacy with Andrea Matarazzo. And the exercise of doubt, we know, is the party’s specialty.
