The Minister of Defense, José Múcio Monteiro, stated this Monday (25) that there is no “constraint” in the summoning of military personnel by the CPMI on January 8th. He also defended the testimony of former Navy commander Admiral Almir Garnier, who would have been mentioned in the testimony of Mauro Cid, former aide-de-camp to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), about an alleged coup plot.
“Not only are we not embarrassed, if we were we wouldn’t be able to say so, because we would be proving that we had some kind of concern. What we don’t have”, stated Múcio, after a meeting with the government leader in Congress, senator Randolfe Rodrigues (no party-AP).
This Tuesday (26), CPMI will hear from General Augusto Heleno. Furthermore, the government base also hopes to approve Garnier’s summons this Tuesday. “I spoke with the commander [da Marinha], we’re sorry. The Navy regrets that he is another person involved, but is aware that it needs his testimony so that the facts can be clarified”, said the minister.
Heleno sued the Federal Supreme Court (STF) not to appear before the commission. However, minister Cristiano Zanin ordered him to participate in the session, but authorized him to remain silent in questions that could incriminate him.
