The only PL senator to vote with Lula’s government says he leaves a sign for not fighting – 06/03/2023 – Politics

Senator Zequinha Marinho (PA) was the only parliamentarian from the PL to vote in favor of the provisional measure to restructure the ministries. If the MP were disapproved, it would be the biggest defeat of the current Lula (PT) government. But now he is no longer in the party of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL): he has decided to go to Podemos.

Marinho justifies that he left the Liberal Party after losing power in the regional directory. “I’m not going to fight with anyone, those who are bothered can move”, he declared to UOL.

Dissatisfied, he joined Podemos, announcing the fact on Wednesday (31). But the change of party appeared on the Senate website only this Friday (2).

During the MP voting, last Thursday (1st), Marinho was still from the PL, as he had not communicated the change to the Senate. His vote was in favor of the Lula government, although he represented an opposition symbol.

As Podemos guided the bench to approve the MP, three other party senators also endorsed the provisional measure.

Only Bolsonarist Marcos do Val voted against. In all, there were 51 votes in favor, 19 against and one abstention in the Senate.

Why did the senator leave the PL?

In March, the PL edited a resolution that weakened the presidents of state directories. The measure transferred the power of important decisions, such as the coordination of regional groups, to federal and state deputies.

Marinho, who was president of the directory in Pará, said that the text transformed him into “queen of England” — in allusion to the figurative role of Elizabeth II, since the regime is a parliamentary monarchy, commanded by the prime minister.

With the change, the PL has 11 members in the Senate — Podemos has 5 senators.

The congressman also stated that he recognizes the importance of federal deputies for the party’s growth, but that he does not have an “inert profile” to just sign papers. He decided to leave the presidency of the directory on May 19 and thus avoid internal fights.

“When you take it out of the hands of the chief coordinator and put it in the deputy’s coordination, the chief loses his role. So leave it alone,” he said. This resolution, with this type of procedure, made us decide to look for another space to work.”

What is the Esplanade PM?

The MP da Esplanada was the text edited by the government to create the current structure of 37 folders. If not approved by Congress, the structure would revert to the formation of the Bolsonaro government.

The measure was approved in the House on the night of last Wednesday (31), with 337 votes in favor and 125 against, one day before the end of the period to appreciate it. On Thursday, it passed the Senate.

The vote in the House took place after the Lula government negotiated with the deputies and conceded. The PT administration authorized on Tuesday (30) R$ 1.7 billion in parliamentary amendments, amid the risk of the president suffering the biggest defeat in Congress in this term.
