Thainara Faria says she was a victim of racism at Alesp – 03/31/2023 – Politics

State deputy Thainara Faria (PT) said this Friday (31) that she was the victim of racism by a servant of Alesp (São Paulo Legislative Assembly).

Thrilled, the first-term deputy made a statement saying that at other times she also suffered racism from public servants because they did not believe she was a deputy.

“I wouldn’t want to be crying here right now. But the point is that it hurts a lot to suffer racism all the time. When it doesn’t hurt, it kills us. And I don’t want anyone else to go through that,” he said.

This time, the case happened when she was prevented from signing a parliamentary book. “When I got down from the table and went to sign the books, the server said: ‘No, these books are only for deputies'”, she said. She claims that, afterwards, she heard the server saying: “It’s difficult”.

“I went back and told her. It’s difficult every day in this House to be confused. We sought you out today to guarantee my button so that I didn’t have to show racism and you denied this button. Because you are not used to a black woman, young , 28 years old circulating around this House.”

She claims that this is not the first time that such a situation has happened. In possession alone were ten times, she said she.

“Since I was elected state deputy, I have been suffering racism in this House. During the inauguration, a policewoman and a servant asked me to clear the way so that the deputies could pass”, she said.

Thainara was elected with more than 90,000 votes in the last elections.

During her political career, she went through other episodes as well.

In a note, the president of Alesp, André do Prado (PL), said he sympathized with the deputy. “Immediately, the president determined measures to be taken by the parliamentary secretary general, who replaced the civil servant involved in the episode. The case will be evaluated at the administrative level”, states the statement.
