Temer praises Haddad and says the minister “is a pleasant surprise”

Former president Michel Temer (MDB) praised the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT), and said that the PT member “is a pleasant surprise”. The statement was made during an event at UBS Brasil Banco de Investimento, this Tuesday (30), in São Paulo.

“Haddad is a pleasant surprise. He does his best to maintain the integrity of public accounts […] Whether the new roof will work or not, only time will tell. But, in any case, the idea of ​​a ceiling for public expenses remains intact”, stated the former president, who was responsible for creating the Spending Ceiling, revoked by President Lula (PT).

Last year, Lula replaced the Spending Ceiling with the Fiscal Framework, which allows for greater flexibility in government spending.

When referring to the PT government as a whole, Michel Temer said that it is necessary to “have a certain optimism”.

According to Temer, “the first year of the Lula government was filled with many conflicts, but now it is starting to take shape”.

For the former president, Lula’s current stance compared to previous terms is justified by the “anguish” that the PT member went through during his arrest.

“He suffered anguish due to his 580-day detention and left very hurt […] I see an aggressive clash, not just from him, from all sides, which is not good. When you go to battle all the time, it causes discomfort among the Brazilian people,” said Temer.

The emedebista also defended the maintenance of dialogue between the Three Powers and tried to justify the constant interference by the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

“The Judiciary only manifests itself when provoked. The Supreme Court advances on certain issues because it is provoked. The provocation has to stop,” he said.

Temer also stated that he gave advice to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) at the beginning of his government and criticized his stance during the Covid-19 health crisis.
