TCU attorney asks for investigation of irregularity and suspension of PL remuneration to Bolsonaro – 07/12/2023 – Panel

The Public Prosecutor’s Office with the TCU (Union Court of Auditors) filed this Wednesday (12) a representation for the court to investigate irregularities in the remuneration granted by the PL to former president Jair Bolsonaro after the recent decision of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) to declare him ineligible.

The request, signed by Deputy Attorney General Lucas Furtado, also requests that, as a precautionary measure, the ex-president’s remuneration be suspended.

In the representation, Furtado mentions the salary of more than R$ 40 thousand paid by the party to Bolsonaro. “It is possible to verify that the structure of a political party is being used to remunerate a person who has been declared ineligible by the highest instance of electoral justice”, he writes.

“Knowing that party acronyms receive resources from the Special Fund for Financial Assistance to Political Parties (Party Fund), which is constituted, among other sources, by budgetary allocations from the Union, what we have is the allocation of public resources to the former -President of the Republic declared ineligible.”

The deputy attorney general also states that using public resources to remunerate condemned by the Judiciary, within the scope of the TSE, is “a direct and deadly violation of the principle of administrative morality.”

“It is also understood that the precautionary action of this Court is appropriate, in the sense of adopting a measure to suspend the remuneration of former President of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro by the Liberal Party”.

The representation also states that, if the court understands that it cannot deliberate on the subject, the records could be forwarded to the TSE (Superior Electoral Court).
