Tarcísio’s secretary criticizes the use of masks against Covid-19 – 02/15/2023 – Panel

Sonaira Fernandes (Republicans), Secretary of Policies for Women in the Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) government, shared on her social media this Tuesday (15) a publication in which she questions the importance of wearing masks against Covid-19.

Sonaira is part of the wing of Bolsonaristas of the Government of São Paulo, also formed by Guilherme Derrite, from Public Security, Colonel Helena Reis, from Sports, and other names in the second echelon.

In the text, the secretary cites a report from the Brasil Sem Medo website, created by followers of the writer Olavo de Carvalho, which describes a letter in which the president of the Federal Council of Medicine, José Hiran Gallo, opposes the mandatory use of masks by the population in planes and airports.

“Preventing the transmission of c*vid 19 is a concern for all of us, but true science indicates that imposing the use of m@scaras (which have no proven efficacy) on the population is a mistake”, says Sonaira’s text, who spells “Covid” and “masks” in this way in an attempt to escape the filters created by social networks against denialist and anti-scientific messages in the pandemic.

The use of masks is recommended as a strategy to suppress transmission of the virus by the World Health Organization (WHO). During the pandemic, doctors and scientists repeatedly stated that masks played an important role in the strategy to contain the spread of the disease.

Tarcísio de Freitas was diagnosed with Covid-19 on Sunday (12) and, in a note, said he is working at home office. This Wednesday (15), he sanctioned a bill that prohibits the requirement to present proof of vaccination against Covid-19 for access to public or private places in any part of the state.
