The government of São Paulo announced this Thursday (17th) that it had rescinded the contract for the purchase of 200 million digital books which, according to Sheet revealed, would do without bidding.

In a note, the Department of Education stated that the contract with the company Primasoft, responsible for the Odilo platform, was terminated, and the authorization for contracting the company Bookwire, an e-book distributor, was cancelled.

The companies would be responsible for implementing the Leia SP project, created by the Secretary of Education, Renato Feder, to offer digital literature books to students.

There would be 68 titles for around 2.9 million students in the network, totaling approximately 197 million accesses. The total cost of the operation would be R$ 15.2 million.

This is the second consecutive setback of the Tarcísio administration in an attempt to promote the use of digital books by the São Paulo education network.

On the night of this Wednesday (16), the Justice of São Paulo granted an injunction forcing the Tarcísio de Freitas government (Republicans) to return to being part of the National Textbook Program (PNLD), of the MEC, which buys textbooks for schools .

Shortly after the decision, the São Paulo Secretary of Education announced that it had given up on leaving the federal program next year. “The decision to remain in the program next year was based on listening and dialogue with society, which resulted in the understanding that more clarifications need to be provided before the change takes effect”, said the portfolio headed by Renato Feder .
