The Tarcísio de Freitas government (Republicans) decided to suspend for another month the validity of the ordinance that applies new reference prices to medicines in São Paulo.
With this, the administration meets the request of the pharmaceutical industry, which tries to contain the increase in taxation and points out supposed inconsistencies in the new list of Weighted Average Price to the Final Consumer (PMPF) of different pharmaceutical products.
The application of the new prices had already been extended from August 2022 to February this year. The effective date has now moved to March 1. During the period, says the Secretariat of Finance and Planning, the information and questions presented by the sector will be analyzed.
“It is very important to listen to the corporate sector and society. The technical team at the Treasury Department is very confident in the methodology, which is very robust. However, we are going to postpone it for a month so that representatives of the pharmaceutical industry can submit some evidence that they say The postponement seems to me more than enough, and I have this agreement with the organizations that represent the sector”, says Samuel Kinoshita, State Secretary of Finance.
As shown to Sheet, sector representatives say that there are problems in changing the calculation base and cases in which the published price is above the maximum amount that pharmacies can charge the final consumer. They claim that several drugs may become commercially unfeasible, even causing occasional shortages because of the measures taken in taxation.
Kinoshita says that he finds it difficult that there are inconsistencies in the ordinance, as the methodology of the undersecretary of Revenue has a lot of checking, but that he wants to use this period to listen to contributions from the sector that can improve the work.
