The government of São Paulo intends to kick off its plan to renovate the center on the 14th of February, when the PPI (Investment Partnerships Program) council meets.

The expectation is that the body, responsible for state projects with private investment, will endorse the start of studies to put into practice the proposal, one of the most ambitious of the Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) administration.

The idea is to promote a major reurbanization process in the vicinity of Praça Princesa Isabel, in the center of the capital, to install the seat of government in the region. There would be land and real estate expropriations and the burying of train lines, to make room for residential and commercial buildings, in addition to public buildings.

The governor’s office and the state secretariats would migrate to the zone. A government survey shows that the state Executive’s organization chart is spread across 63 locations in the capital.

Once approved by the council, Tarcísio’s government will begin detailing the studies, with a forecast of cost, financing and schedule. One intention is to seek partnerships with universities, and the hiring of bodies such as Fipe (Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas) to help format the project. The goal is for the construction model to be a public-private partnership.
