Tarcísio government says that debate on amnesty for Covid fines goes beyond the Bolsonaro case – 08/13/2023 – Panel

Government officials Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) say that the discussion about amnesty for fines for health infractions during the pandemic goes far beyond the case of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
There would be about 10,000 notices of infraction pending at the state health surveillance agencies, which would be consuming a large part of the work of the Health Department, whose structure does not handle the volume. The amnesty, they justify, would be a way to free state management from this bureaucracy.
According to a member of the government, the politicization that involves Bolsonaro has hindered the technical discussion on the subject.
The possibility of amnesty for fines is under discussion within the Tarcísio government, still without definition. The Executive’s justification is that the fines were educational in nature, not tax collection.
