The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, decided to take the field to attract affiliates to the Republicans, his party, with which he has been going through a moment of tension. The movement practically marks his debut in party sewing.
Tarcísio stated, in August, that he would not like to see Republicans as part of the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government base after being asked about the possibility of the party taking on a ministry.
Republican leaders, in turn, criticize Tarcísio for allegedly giving little space to nominations from the acronym in his management.
The current three Republican secretaries —Sonaira Fernandes (Women), Roberto de Lucena (Tourism) and Coronel Helena Reis (Sport)— are seen as the governor’s choices and did not depart from party deliberations.
The frequent comparison is with Gilberto Kassab’s PSD, which, according to Republican representatives, has received more attention.
Tarcísio suggested to Carlão Pignatari (PSDB), former president of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo, that he migrate to the Republicans. The expectation is that the toucan will be able to take up to five deputies with him to the party and help organize the relationship between the Executive and the Legislative.
In conversations with Pignatari, the governor initially suggested the PP, to which Arthur Lima, his right-hand man and secretary of the Civil House, is affiliated. In a second moment, he preferred to contemplate his own initials.
The governor also personally asked the deputy mayor of São Sebastião, Reinaldinho Moreira, formerly of Podemos, to join the Republicans, which happened in early August.
