Tarcísio authorizes MST to hold a fair in a park in SP – 03/03/2023 – Panel

After four years, the MST (Movement of Landless Rural Workers) will once again hold its National Agrarian Reform Fair in the Água Branca park, in São Paulo.
The last time the event took place at the venue was in 2018. The following year, the event was vetoed by then-Governor João Doria, who had been elected with a strong speech against leftist parties and movements. The park belongs to the state sphere, and therefore the authorization of the Palácio dos Bandeirantes is necessary.
In the following three years, the event was not held due to the pandemic. Now, the movement has obtained the release from Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), even with the conservative record of the head of the state Executive. The intermediation was made by the Secretary of Government, Gilberto Kassab.
The event will take place between May 10th and 14th. The movement intends to expose the production of its settlements, in addition to promoting cultural events. Around 260,000 people visited the last edition of the fair, according to the movement.
The MST is an ally of the Lula government, but has shown itself to be impatient with the slow pace of agrarian reform actions, and is already planning mobilizations in the month of April. Last Monday (27), the regional coordination of the movement in Bahia anticipated and invaded three farms.
