Tarcísio, at agro, speaks in chain to land invader – 04/29/2023 – Politics

Opposition governors to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) strongly criticized the recent land invasions in the country, including the threat of imprisonment for the perpetrators.

The statements were made this Saturday (29) in Uberaba (MG), at the opening of Expozebu, the world’s main Zebu cattle fair, which was attended by the governors of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), and from Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo).

The three, in addition to Gabriel Garcia Cid, president of ABCZ (Brazilian Association of Zebu Breeders), organizer of the event, preached the right to property and legal security in the countryside.

Tarcísio stated that the narrative that agriculture is not sustainable cannot be accepted and said that he is intransigent “with the violation of the right to property”.

“We are not going to compromise. We will be tough to guarantee the right to property. And those who tried to compromise in the state of São Paulo are currently in jail. And anyone who tries will face the same fate, jail.”

Gabriel Garcia Cid stated that, given the current situation in the country, “there is an urgent need” for the livestock sector to unite.

“Our positions are firm in the defense of producers, their guidelines, the right to property and the search for solutions to the issues that afflict those who produce and paralyze the economy. Our flag is for respect, peace and security in the countryside, which are values ​​that we do not give up”, he said.

His speech ended with the statement that there will only be order and progress in the country if there is peace in the countryside.

Caiado, in a 12-minute speech, said that he is still concerned about having to discuss the right to property in the country, which he considers to be a guarantee of the 1988 Constitution.

“We shouldn’t argue anymore. In Goiás I made it clear to all my security forces: every month in Goiás is green and yellow, there is no red month in my state of Goiás and I do not accept invasion of rural property.”

Author of the final speech at the opening of the exhibition in Triângulo Mineiro, the governor of Minas Gerais said that there are land invasions in the state, but that they are quickly undone.

“One or two people come in and they are removed immediately. Because the problem is when you have dozens, hundreds of people. So our Military Police are attentive and the man in the field here will spend his time producing and not watching the property,” said Zema.

The statements take place in the context of growing criticism of the MST (Landless Rural Workers Movement) due to actions across the country in recent weeks. In Congress, the Chamber decided to set up a CPI to investigate the movement, which is an ally of President Lula.

The three governors present, who were hailed by the mayor of Uberaba, Elisa Araújo (Solidariedade), as “future presidents of the country”, exchanged caresses throughout the event.

While Caiado said that “São Paulo is to be congratulated”, Tarcísio stated that Caiado and Zema “inherited broken states” and that “Goiás and Minas are very well served”. The three were supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the 2022 election.

Zema said he is investing in highways, but that “perhaps he will not achieve the Tarcísio standard” and that he knows that the governor of São Paulo “is fond of this meat that almost melts in the mouth”, in relation to the quality production of the cattle herd.

In the morning, before moving to Parque Fernando Costa, where Expozebu is being held, the governors had breakfast together at the Havana 2 hotel, where, alongside other politicians and advisers, they spoke about investments in railroads and mentioned policies developed from the government of Michel Temer (MDB).

After the opening, the three walked through the Expozebu gastronomic fair, where they tried coffee, cachaça and dulce de leche sold by producers from Uberaba and cities in the region.

The exhibition reaches its 88th edition with the expectation of reaching R$ 350 million in business and receiving 430 thousand visitors until May 7th.
