Brazilian swimming won the gold medal in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay, this Sunday (22), at the Pan American Games, taking place in Santiago.
The team formed by Guilherme Caribé, Marcelo Chierighini, Ana Carolina Vieira and Stephanie Balduccini, finished the race with a time of 3:23:78 and, in addition to taking gold, broke the Pan-American record.
The United States took silver, with 3:24.21, and Canada, with bronze, with 3:25.23.
“The idea was not to give up. They came very strong, but I learned that even if we are far behind, we cannot give up. That was what was going through my head at that time and then I gave my all”, said Balduccini, responsible for closing the relay.
Brazilian swimming won four other medals on the day: Vinicius Lanza (100m butterfly) and Maria Fernanda (200m freestyle) took silver; Murilo Sartori (200m freestyle) and Alexia Assunção (200m backstroke) took bronze.
Skateboarding gave the country another medal. Augusto Akio secured silver in the skate park in a high-level competition. With Akio’s medal, Brazil ended its participation in skateboarding with five medals: two golds and three silvers.
Women’s volleyball repeated the good performance of its debut against Cuba and repeated the score of 3 sets to 0 against Argentina.
Brazil ended this second day of competitions in fourth place in the games, with 23 medals (5 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze).
The United States leads, with 44 medals (20; 11; 13), followed by Mexico, with 18 (10; 5; 3) and Canada, with 19 (8; 5; 6)
