Away from home, Amazonas FC wins the Serie C title in an upset against Brusque

With emotion, Onça Pintada held off Brusque’s pressure away from home and secured the title

Manaus (AM) – Brazilian Series C Champion, Amazonas FC wins victory away from home against Brusque! This Sunday (22), at the Augusto Bauer stadium, the jaguar beat Brusque 2-1, in the final of Series C of the Brazilian Championship. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the visitors came from behind, but sought a draw in the first half of the second leg and came back in the second half to secure the unprecedented title. It is the first national title in the history of Amazonas FC and Amazonas football as a whole.

The two finalists already had a guaranteed place in Series B, but the victory has a special taste for Amazonas. Founded in 2019, the team won its first national title. Paysandu and Operário complete the list of teams that moved up to the second division of the Brazilian Championship.

The game

The first minutes were balanced, with both teams arriving with danger and taking turns attacking. After ten minutes, Edina Alves scored a penalty for the home team for a handball in the area. From the kick, Guilherme Queiróz hit the left corner to put Brusque in front.

The first half remained balanced and the home team wasted three consecutive chances to increase their advantage. And as the football saying goes, whoever doesn’t do it, gets it. With a quick free kick, Diego Torres received the ball at the edge of the area and hit the ball to leave everything equal.

In the second half, Amazonas came back better and managed to turn things around after eleven minutes. In a play from the top, Sassá took advantage of the space and, with space, filled the net to put the visitors in front. Needing a comeback, the rest of the game was all up to Brusque, who put pressure on, but were unable to break through the opponent’s defense and finished runners-up.

With only four years of existence, Amazonas FC achieved historic achievements in 2023. After being an unprecedented state champion, the club consolidated a great campaign and qualified for Series B, in its first participation in Series C.

In the decision, the Jaguar reaches another unprecedented achievement and wins the cup, which made it the first Amazonian club to become national champion, in all time.

Even with the goalless draw at Arena da Amazônia, Amazonas FC’s campaign away from home brings peace of mind to the decision. Playing away from Manaus is not a problem for the Jaguar, with the best campaign as a visitor in Series C. Away from Amazonian territory, the Aurinegra team has seven wins, one draw and five defeats, representing a 56.41% success rate.
