The 13th edition of Virada Sustentável in São Paulo began this Saturday (16), with musical attractions, theater plays, installations, lectures and free courses.
Among the works of art spread across the city is the installation Eggcident, by Dutch artist Henk Hofstra. Its giant fried eggs seek to provoke reflection on global warming in those who pass by the B32 Theater square, in Itaim Bibi.
The provocation is in line with the concept of the event, based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals defined by the UN (United Nations) and divided into the axes of culture, action and knowledge.
Among the activities aimed at discussing ideas, the lecture “A world free from droughts and floods? Vital lessons from large-scale ecological regeneration in India” stands out, with the participation of environmentalist Rajendra Singh. The event will take place on the 22nd, starting at 5pm, at Unibes Cultural.
The challenge of climate change for the city of São Paulo, agroecology, biofuels and the role of journalism in sustainability are some of the other topics that will be debated in the coming days.
In the group of cultural attractions, shows such as “Raízes do Carimbó”, which exalts elements of Amazonian culture, and the performance of Orquestra Mundana Refugi, formed by 22 immigrant, refugee and Brazilian musicians, alongside singer Adriana Calcanhoto, are scheduled. The show will be held at Parque Villa-Lobos on September 24, the last day of Virada Sustentável in the city.
The action line includes activities such as fertilizer distribution, toy-making workshops with recyclable materials and trails.
“It will be a historic edition, with a wide occupation of the city and an unmissable program to generate information and reflection based on a creative and attractive approach to sustainability”, said André Palhano, one of the founders of the festival, in a statement.
