Sustainable IPTU project is approved in Porto Alegre

The Chamber of Porto Alegre approved this Wednesday (12) the bill that establishes progressive discounts in the payment of the Tax on Property and Urban Land (IPTU) to properties that adopt sustainable practices. The article was authored by the Executive and was named Sustainable IPTU.
The sustainability criteria to be adopted by the beneficiary will still be defined by the executive through a decree. The discount will be given progressively, so that the greater the number of criteria met, the greater the tax benefit – which can reach up to a 10% discount.
Of the demands that will be forwarded by the mayor, three have already been approved by the legislature through amendment two, authored by Councilwoman Fernanda Barth (Pode). One of them deals with the underground wiring installation. The excerpt is in line with a bill sanctioned yesterday by the Executive – of which the councilwoman is one of the authors – the article predicts that in 15 years the capital’s wiring must be completely underground.
Two other proposals were also in the amendment. One requires the beneficiary to use renewable energy and rainwater. The other deals with the obligatory installation of ecological roofs and facades – which allows for the growth of vegetation.
The beneficiary who adopts the Sustainable IPTU will be entitled to a three-year discount on the IPTU. After this period, you must request the seal again to maintain the benefit. The Executive body responsible for overseeing and managing the program will be the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment, Urbanism and Sustainability (Smamus).
The matter was approved in the Otávio Rocha plenary by 22 votes in favor and 11 against.
