Suspect of attempted explosion in the DF surrenders to the police – 01/17/2023 – Politics

Bolsonarist Alan Diego Rodrigues, suspected of having participated in the attempted bomb attack near Brasília Airport on December 24, turned himself in this Tuesday (17).

Alan Diego performed at the Civil Police in the city of Comodoro, in Mato Grosso. He had been on the run since December 29, when Operation Nero was launched.

In this investigation, the Federal Police and the Civil Police of the Federal District found evidence of the participation of a supporter of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) also in the attempt to invade the PF building and subsequent acts of vandalism in the streets of Brasília.

Alan surrendered after negotiating with the family with the police, who had carried out searches in two rural properties and a residence of the suspect.

According to police chief Ricardo Marques Sarto, responsible for the prison, talks began last week, after searches were carried out in a rural area.

“We managed to establish contact with a popular person who, in theory, would have contact with Alan Diego. And in the face of some arguments and exposition of some facts, we managed to make him surrender”, he said.

Alan Diego reported to the police alone, without a lawyer. Now, Mato Grosso authorities will notify the STF (Federal Supreme Court) and the Civil Police of the Federal District to prepare the transfer to Brasília.

The Bolsonarist came into the police sights after George Washington Souza, 54, arrested on December 24 as suspected of masterminding the bomb attack, reported in a statement to the police that Alan Diego would be his assistant.

Washington went to the Bolsonarist camp at the Army HQ on Friday (23) and left the artifact “already prepared” with Alan. The explosive was installed in a fuel truck loaded with 60,000 liters of jet fuel.

“I handed the artifact to Alan and insisted that he install it on a power pole to interrupt the electricity supply, I did not agree with the idea of ​​​​exploding it in the airport parking lot. However, I learned on TV that the police had seized a bomb in the airport and that Alan had not followed the original plan”, he said in his hearing.

After the attempted terrorist attacks, security in the Federal District was reinforced until President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took office on January 1st.
