Blackout, tariff readjustment and quality of energy service are central themes of public hearing of the MPF – News of Brazil

Knowing the reality, from the point of view of the population, and acting in search of improvements in the electric energy service. This is the objective of the public hearing “Electric Energy Tariff Increase and energy issue in the State of Amapá” promoted by the Federal Public Ministry in Amapá (MPF) with the support of the Brazilian Bar Association – Amapá Section. The event, which will focus on the 2020 blackout, tariff adjustment and quality of service, will take place this Wednesday (18), from 2 pm to 7 pm, at the OAB auditorium, at Rua Binga Uchôa, 26, in downtown Macapá.
The meeting provides an opportunity for dialogue between the Amapá community, regulatory bodies and inspection bodies, professionals from the electricity and economic sectors and government authorities. Collective participation is essential to define the other activities of the MPF on the energy issue in Amapá. More than 40 citizens signed up to present their stories at the hearing. Each one will have 5 minutes to speak about the quality of the service provided, tariff values and difficulties faced in the face of energy crises.
“We will deal with these matters at the hearing, listening to the testimony of consumers. We will also talk about the work that the MPF has been developing related to the energy issue in Amapá, more specifically about the 2020 blackout”points out the Public Prosecutor Sarah Cavalcanti, holder of the Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office for Citizens’ Rights.
The public hearing is the result of a meeting promoted by the MPF, in December 2022, to discuss the adjustment to be perceived by consumers, of an average of 36.08%, authorized by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). Due to the complexity of the issue, the body chose to listen to the community, the main affected by the services of the Equatorial CEA.
