Suplicy says he has attended 11,666 people as councilor – 03/10/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The elected state deputy Eduardo Suplicy (PT) says he has, in the last six years, assisted people, social movements and organizations who sought his office at the São Paulo City Council.

The parliamentarian says goodbye to the House next week, when he will take office in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo.

According to a balance made by the PT’s team, most (29%) of the demands received between 2017 and 2022 were about the mandate itself, including agenda requests, party matters and requests for information, among others.

Then there are requests related to employment and income (13.1%), social protection (8.8%), with questions related to welcoming equipment and complaints of violation of the rights of homeless people (8.8% ), and health (7.1%), with requests for help to obtain care.

Legal demands were also received (5.1%). According to the balance sheet, most of them consisted of guidance, since many of the people who sought the office did not know that they could count on the free service offered by the São Paulo Public Defender’s Office.

The balance of Eduardo Suplicy’s last two terms as councilor will be published next Monday (13). On the occasion, he will hold a meeting in the plenary of the City Council to detail the legislative activities carried out in the last six years.

Between 2017 and 2023, according to the document, the councilor would have had 92% of attendance at the plenary sessions of the House, presented 183 bills, acted in three CPIs as holder, benefited more than 60 civil society initiatives through parliamentary amendments and participated in 3,104 commitments.

In last year’s elections, Suplicy was the most voted candidate for state deputy in São Paulo, with 807,0152 votes. With the victory, the petista will return to occupy the first position he held in his political career.

He was elected state deputy for the first time in 1978, for the MDB. He then helped found the PT and, in 1982, won a seat as a federal deputy.

In 1985, he lost the dispute for the City of São Paulo. A year later, he was defeated in the state gubernatorial election. In 1988, he was the councilor with the most votes in the city of São Paulo and was later elected president of the City Council.

Suplicy, however, briefly served as a local legislator. In 1990, he was elected senator, a position he would hold until 2014, when he lost re-election.

In 2016, the PT candidate was again the most voted councilor in the São Paulo elections, with 301,000 votes. But in 2018, he again lost the Senate election. In 2020, he was elected councilor – once again, as the most voted, with 167,000 preferences.
