Suplicy and Gil Diniz will share Human Rights at Alesp – 04/20/2023 – Panel

Deputies Eduardo Suplicy (PT) and Bolsonarist Gil Diniz (PL), seen as the right-hand man of the Bolsonaro family in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo, assumed the positions, respectively, of president and deputy of the Commission for the Defense of the Rights of the Human Person, of Citizenship, Participation and Social Issues (CDD).

The composition draws attention to the wide ideological divergence between Suplicy and Diniz. However, Suplicy himself and Beth Sahão, another PT member of the commission, voted for Diniz as deputy.

Deputy Paula from the Feminist Banquet (PSOL) launched her candidacy for vice-president, but only had her vote, while the Bolsonarist counted eight votes. Suplicy was elected president by acclamation.

The PT base claims that, by voting for Diniz, it respected the proportionality agreement signed at Alesp. With 19 deputies each, PL and PT/PC do B have the largest seats in the House in this legislature.

“PSOL was the only party that did not accept this principle of proportionality. We decided to respect the agreement, we kept the presidency [da comissão]and them [PL] with the deputy”, said Suplicy.

At the age of 81, the petista says he is used to living with politicians from other acronyms. “We are going to debate about the most diverse problems, from homeless people, from cracolândia, against any offense that is carried out by the security forces”, said Suplicy.

Sought by the Panel, Diniz did not respond.
