Supercopa do Brasil will feature novelty in VAR technology – News of Brazil

The CBF Arbitration Commission announced news regarding the protocol for using the Video Referee (VAR) in the final of the Brazilian Super Cup. In the duel between Palmeiras x Flamengo, this Saturday (28), at Estádio Mané Garrincha, in Brasília (DF), the technology will have an update of the offside lines system.
In practice, the procedure guarantees a greater margin of safety in the review process. Thus, in offside plays where VAR technology is used, if the lines for defining the players’ positions overlap, that is, the penultimate defender’s line and the attacker’s line are superimposed, a blue line will be displayed and the attacker will be considered in legal position. It is the concept of “same line”.
President of the CBF Arbitration Commission, Wilson Luiz Seneme, highlighted the efforts of the CBF to improve the spectacle of football on the field and help in the best performance of Brazilian arbitration.
“This decision model is in line with what the main leagues in the world, such as England, Spain and Holland, and FIFA itself has used. The new technology provides greater sporting justice in millimeter situations. We understand that in this way the decisions of the referees will be within the expectations of Brazilian football”, he highlighted.
In addition to the novelty in relation to the offside line, fans will be able to follow the revisions live on the stadium’s screen, just as it already happens on TV broadcasts. The measure aims to make it easier for spectators to understand the decisions made by the field referee with the help of VAR.
