Super Bowl 58: Kansas City Chiefs are champions – 02/12/2024 – Sports

In a game of comebacks, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers and lifted their fourth Super Bowl trophy, 25-22, in Paradise, Nevada, on Sunday night (11).

The 58th edition of the grand final of the NFL (National Football League) season, the biggest sporting event of the year in the United States, was the second to be decided in extra time, after the 51st.

The match, played at Allegiance Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, in front of around 65 thousand spectators, started defensively, with both teams finishing the first quarter without points.

The Kansas City Chiefs, who were defending their title, ended the first half trailing 10-3 and turned things around in the third quarter, opening 13-10. The last period was the most tense, with both teams locked at 16-16 with no more to go. just over five minutes to the end of the regulation game.

With less than two minutes on the clock, Jake Moody hit a field goal from more than 50 yards and put the San Francisco team ahead, 19 to 16. With six seconds, the Missouri team tied again and took the match to overtime .

In the extra period, the 49ers took the lead with a field goal. With mere seconds left until the final whistle, however, Hardman invaded the endzone and sealed the victory for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs’ highlight was the already experienced Patrick Mahomes, who arrived at the match having already been named best player in two Super Bowls. The quarterback led the team in complicated campaigns, often behind on the scoreboard.

Mahomes now ties Troy Aikman with 3 Super Bowls. Tom Brady has 7, Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana each have 4.

Surfing a good moment off the field due to his relationship with singer Taylor Swift, tight end Travis Kelce had a discreet game, until in the final quarter of regulation he made an important advance to allow his team to tie once again.

The star of the game for the 49ers was wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who threw the team’s first touchdown pass — his first in a professional game — and scored the second, in the final quarter.

The young 49ers quarterback, Brock Purdy, 24, sealed his rise from “Mr. Irrelevant” (Mr. Irrelevant) — title given to the last player selected in the professional league’s annual “draft” —, in 2022, to champion.

Another who completed a standout season was Christian McCaffrey, 27. The young running back completed a touchdown in the 49ers’ first Super Bowl victory since 1995 — the Californians also won the cup in 1982, 85, 89 and 90.

The long-awaited halftime attraction was the American singer Usher, an eight-time Grammy award winner and one of the biggest names in the R&B genre today. The dancing performance, accompanied by a full marching band, included the participation of singer Alicia Keys, who sang with Usher an excerpt from “My Boo” and Ludacris, who recalled the great hit “Yeah!”.
