The Amazon Development Superintendence (Sudam) promotes the “Seminar Identifying priority demands for the sustainable development of the Marajó Archipelagos, in Pará, and Bailique, in Amapá/AP”. The event, from 9am to 6pm, continues until this Tuesday (17th), at the institution’s headquarters, in the Marco neighborhood, in Belém.
According to Sudam, the debates will have representatives from federal, state and city governments, as well as teaching and research institutions. “The idea is to identify and map priority demands to be met in a joint and planned manner. The work is urgent, as these regions, even rich in natural resources and with great economic potential, have a low Human Development Index (HDI)”says the text released by the Amazon Superintendence.
Furthermore, according to the Superintendency, the Seminar aims to raise the main challenges and opportunities for the development of the aforementioned regions, “in an effort involving civil society, interinstitutional coordination in the three spheres of government and private sector participation”points out Sudam.
Public and private initiatives
Sudam also informs that based on the mapping, public and private actions will be directed to meet priority demands of the Marajó and Bailique archipelagos, in Amapá.
The Seminar will be conducted using a participatory methodology, so that participants can prepare proposals for the needs of the populations covered, in the short, medium and long term.
The Sudam Deliberative Council defined the regions mentioned in Pará and Amapá as priorities in the National Regional Development Policy, under the management of the Ministry of Agrarian Integration and Development (MIDR), to which Sudam is linked. One of Amapá’s representatives at the event will be Jucinete Carvalho de Alencar, interim secretary of Planning.
Policies to reduce poverty and regional inequality
Sudam also informs that the Council’s deliberation is in line with the federal government’s policy (PNDR), to reduce poverty and regional inequality, and actions for social inclusion and promotion of work opportunities, income and economic development, social and human.
The opening of the Seminar program took place at 9 am, this Monday (16), with the participation of ministers of State, the governments of Pará, Amapá, Municipal and civil society and invited institutions. At 11am, discussion tables were set up with the theme “Sustainable and inclusive development of Marajó and Bailique”.
The event continued throughout the afternoon, with themes such as fishing, fish farming and shrimp farming; culture and tourism; fruit growing and wood and non-wood forestry products and family farming. The program returns on Tuesday (17), with the closing plenary, at 4:30 pm, with the presentation of the ‘Event Summary Document’.
