Students from social projects participate in the Martial Arts Festival at the 52nd Expofeira do Amapá – News of Brazil

The Government of Amapá promotes social projects for socially vulnerable students. The public was treated to a special program at the Martial Arts Festival as part of the 52nd Expofeira, at the Fazendinha Exhibition Park, in Macapá.
Students, teachers, parents and the public attended the program. Sports such as Jiu-jitsu, Karate and Aikido were able to demonstrate their techniques on site.
“With the State Government presenting the work of these actions, we want more people to be able to learn about the projects and especially the sports, which are martial arts that are still in the process of evolving in terms of support within our state”said the Festival coordinator, Dorivaldo Costa.
The ‘Lutar Semper’ project brings together students in three centers: Military Police Battalion, in Conjunto São José, Congós neighborhood and also one at the Nancy Nina da Costa State School, in the Zerão neighborhood. For the person responsible for the academy, sensei Enos Marques, the visibility of projects by the Government plays a fundamental role in society.
“We have been on this project for 8 years, giving opportunities to children and teenagers, taking them out of idleness, making them move towards a good future. Our goal is to add good things to their lives, because we know that today there are always those who push towards a not so positive side, so we are here to take them to that positive side”explained the sensei.
One of the young people benefiting from the projects is Gabryelly Müller, 18 years old. She has been playing the sport for 4 years and has already competed in professional tournaments in the state. The athlete believes that actions such as the Martial Arts Festival can serve to undo some stigmas created about martial arts.
“It’s very important to give greater visibility to the sport, so people don’t see it as a big deal, because they say Jiu Jitsu is just for breaking your arm, but there are several techniques to avoid that. We hope to attract more athletes who want to be part of this family too”said Gabyelly.
