Students from Amazonas win gold and silver medals at the 2023 Brazilian Rocket Show

Altogether, Amazonas won five awards – a gold medal, three silver medals and an honorable mention.

Manaus (AM) – Students from public schools in Amazonas were awarded at the 41st Brazilian Rocket Show (MobFog) 2023, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, from August 14 to 17. Altogether, Amazonas won five awards – a gold medal, three silver medals and an honorable mention.

The highlight was the Isaías Vasconcelos State School, from Iranduba (27 kilometers from Manaus), which was the only teaching unit from the interior to go to the competition and brought the gold medal from Amazonas. Of the three silver medals won, two went to the Full Time Educational Center (Ceti) Dariana Corrêa Lopes, north of Manaus; the third, in addition to a mention, went to the State School Engº Artur Soares Amorim, also in the North Zone of the city.

The EE Isaías Vasconcelos team, made up of students Lidissa Gomes, Gabriela Passarinho and João Pedro Sampaio and teacher Elcilane Maquiné, won the gold medal after reaching the height of 171 meters in the launch. The school was the only one in the network to compete in the solid-propelled rocket modality.

The manager of the teaching unit, Francimary Macedo, explained how the medal is a recognition of the effort of the entire team, which competed, and a very important symbol of the quality education offered in the interior of the state.

“The feeling is one of overcoming. It is very gratifying to know that our efforts were recognized, that the time invested was rewarded and that all the dedication of Professor Elcilane and students Gabriela, Lidissa and João Pedro were recognized through this medal. This medal is a symbol that in the interior of the state of Amazonas quality education is also carried out and science is also developed”,

Another highlight was Ceti Dariana Corrêa, who left the competition with two medals won by the Tupã teams, formed by students Jhansen de Araújo, Chrysthopher Rodrigues and Walmique Morais; and Iara formed by students Sérgio Veiga and Wankerdan Filho. The teacher responsible for the two teams was Breno da Silva. Professor Aline Noronha also accompanied the teams.

Nelissandra Gurgel, manager of Ceti, said that the result is gratifying for the school, which is now in its third year of operation, and that the efforts of students and teachers motivated the entire teaching unit. According to the manager, the school will receive the students with a lot of celebration and will make an honorable mention for the excellent result of the work.

“When the idea of ​​participating in MobFog came up, I immediately thought it wouldn’t be easy, and it really wasn’t. However, seeing the enthusiasm of the students and Professor Breno was what motivated us. From these results achieved here at the school, I had no doubt that they would go far. This result is exciting, important for them, who represented the school and our state of Amazonas, as well as making history for our school, which is in its third year of operation”,

Held by the Brazilian Astronomical Society (SAB), in partnership with the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB), the Brazilian Rocket Show (MobFog) is part of the Brazilian Astronomy and Aeronautics Olympiad (OBA), an entirely experimental competition that consists of building and launching rockets as far as possible from a launch pad.

During the four days of MobFog, students participated in various programs such as rocket workshops, engine workshops, rocket kinematics, among others. On the 17th, the announcement and awarding of the participating teams with medals, trophies and certificates took place.
