Withdrawal comes after left ankle sprain; Benfica-POR player will be replaced by midfielder Angelina
The CBF announced this Tuesday (18) that striker Nycole has been cut from the Women’s World Cup dispute. The 23-year-old athlete suffered a left ankle injury in the training game last Monday (17th) and will not have enough time to recover for the tournament.
The Benfica player spent most of the selection’s preparation in Australia recovering from another injury, suffered against Chile in the last friendly before the World Cup. Nycole had suffered a sprained right ankle, but had since recovered.
For her place, the coaching staff confirmed the call-up of midfielder Angelina, who plays for OL Reign, from the United States. She was part of the group of substitutes that was with the delegation in Gold Coast, along with Aline Gomes and Tainara.
Brazil’s debut in the World Cup will take place next Monday (24th), in Adelaide, against Panama. Pia Sundhage’s men will still face France and Jamaica in the first phase of the competition.
