STJ denies auditorium for inauguration of the Sports Justice – 05/22/2023 – Frederico Vasconcelos

The STJ (Superior Court of Justice) should not give up its external auditorium for the inauguration of the new board of the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice), a ceremony scheduled to take place next Wednesday (24th), at 7:30 pm.

The inauguration of José Perdiz de Jesus and Felipe Bevilacqua de Souza, respectively president and vice president for the 2023/2024 term, was included in the event “Jurisports 10 Anos Brasília”, from the 24th to the 26th of this month.

The STJ informed through its office that “there is no authorization from the presidency of the STJ for the inauguration of the new presidency of the STJD or any institutional support for the mentioned event”.

According to a note sent, “the STJ had responded to a request from the National Academy of Sports Law (ANDD), providing the external auditorium to hold an exclusively academic event with the participation of the Ministers of the House who are members of the Higher Academic Council of ANDD” .

Invitations were distributed signed by the president of the STJD, Otávio Henrique Menezes de Noronha, son of the former president of the STJ João Otávio de Noronha.

Court practice is to give up space when court ministers are speakers. The STJ was unaware of the fact that the new directors had taken office during the event. The current ministers of the STJ, members of the Higher Academic Council of ANDD, are not among the lecturers.

The STJ ministers Marcelo Navarro Ribeiro Dantas, Ricardo Villas Bôas Cueva, Paulo Dias de Moura Ribeiro, Luiz Alberto Gurgel de Faria and Reynaldo Soares Fonseca belong to the council.

The STJD is not a body of the Judiciary. It is an institution governed by private law, autonomous, funded by the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation).

Puppyism in sport

Wikipedia records that “traditionally, the STJD has many of its chairs occupied by sons of judges from important courts in the country and renowned jurists”.

The site highlights the following names, among other members of the sports court: Eduardo Mello (son of former STF minister Marco Aurélio de Mello); Luiz Zveiter (son of Waldemar Zveiter, former minister of the STJ, brother of Sergio Zveiter, former president of the Rio de Janeiro OAB) and Flavio Zveiter, who also chaired the STJD, when he was only 31 years old.

Otávio Henrique Menezes de Noronha joined the STJD as an auditor in 2012. Two years later, he was elected to the Third Commission, under the management of lawyer Caio Cesar Vieira Rocha, son of the former president of the STJ Cesar Asfor Rocha.

Otávio Henrique succeeded in the presidency to Paulo Cesar Salomão Filho, in whose tenure he was vice-president. Paulo Cesar is the nephew of STJ minister Luis Felipe Salomão.

Judgment in the Great Hall

In 2019, under the presidency of João Otávio de Noronha, the STJ hosted the seminar “The Sport that the Superior Courts Practice“, carried out by ANDD. There was a judgment session in Salão Nobre. Luis Felipe Salomão, Og Fernandes, Regina Helena Costa and Nefi Cordeiro were speakers. Among the sponsors, Caixa, Uninove and the federal government.

This year’s edition of “Jurisports” is sponsored by GOL and Ibrachina (Brazil-China Socio Cultural Institute). In 2022, in the management of Otávio Noronha as president of the STJD, there was also a trial session. The meeting was sponsored by JBS, the São Paulo Football Federation and supported by the OAB and STJ.

The 2023 event will be opened by the president of ANDD, Terence Zveiter, partner of Caputo, Barbosa e Zveiter Advogados. Minister Aloysio Corrêa da Veiga, from the TST, will give a master class on the theme “Pelé’s legacy”.

There will be two panels on current topics: “Sports Betting”, chaired by Sérgio Pinto Martins (TRT-2), with the special advisor of the Ministry of Finance José Francisco Manssur as guest, and “Manipulation of Competitions – Criminal and Sports Aspects” , at a table chaired by Amaury Rodrigues Pinto Júnior (TRT-24). Among the guests, Ney Bello (TRF-1).
