STF judges another 45 suspects of participating in the January 8, starting on Friday (23)

The Federal Supreme Court (STF) scheduled for Friday (23) the trial of over 45 suspects of participation in the acts of January 8. The Court will analyze the eighth block of investigated persons who were denounced by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).

The judgment will take place in the virtual plenary, a modality in which the ministers insert the votes in the electronic system of the Court and there is no in-person deliberation. Voting will run until Monday (26), informed Agência Brasil. The ministers will decide whether to open criminal proceedings against the accused.

“If the denunciations are accepted, they become defendants, and the process will be initiated. In these cases, there will be collection of evidence and testimonies from defense and prosecution witnesses. Afterwards, the STF will still have to judge whether to condemn or acquit the accused, the that does not have a specific deadline for it to occur”, pointed out the Court.

Since the beginning of the investigations, the STF has opened criminal proceedings against 1,245 defendants. In total, 1,390 complaints were filed by the PGR. Around 250 defendants remain in prison on charges of acting as perpetrators and instigators of the acts.

Starting next week, the STF will also begin hearings on the proceedings. The office of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur for the cases, will be responsible for the hearings.
