Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), authorized that the former Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District, Anderson Torres, be heard by the CPI of the Legislative Chamber of the DF that investigates the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília, on the 8th of January.

In the decision, issued this Tuesday (7), Moraes accepted the request made by the members of the CPI for Torres to be taken from prison to the Legislative Chamber for the taking of the statement on Thursday (9), but guaranteed him the constitutional right to accept or no and to remain silent. The defense of the former secretary stated that he has no interest in attending the commission, as he would have already given his version to the Federal Police.

Moraes states that Torres’ participation in the CPI investigation “is not just a means of ensuring that the relevant facts are brought to light and the relevant arguments considered. More than that, the right of the accused to express himself freely and to be heard at the appropriate procedural moment is intrinsic to the nature of the trial, whose main purpose is to justify the final verdict for the accused himself, as a legally obtained result, granting him respect and consideration that any citizen deserves”, he said in the decision (see full text).

The taking of Anderson Torres’ testimony by the CPI installed in the Legislative Chamber of the DF is scheduled for this Thursday (9), at 10 am. In addition to the former secretary, his subordinate in charge of security on January 8, Fernando de Souza Oliveira, was heard by district deputies last week.
