The São Paulo State Department of Education announced this Tuesday (19) that schools where it has contracts with cooks and purchases inputs will serve lunch to students from January 2nd, during the holidays.

According to the ministry, there are 3,422 school units in this condition in 152 municipalities. In the other approximately 2,000 units in the state, food is provided in a decentralized manner, by city halls, which is why they will not be served by the initiative.

In addition to schools in the capital of São Paulo, the secretariat informs that state network units in the cities of Santo André, São Bernardo do Campo, São Caetano do Sul, Caieiras, Cajamar, Carapicuíba, Cotia, Diadema, Embu das Artes can also serve lunch. , Embu-Guaçu, Francisco Morato, Franco da Rocha, Guarulhos, Itapecerica da Serra, Itapevi, Jandira, Juquitiba, Mairiporã, Mauá, Osasco, Rio Grande da Serra, Ribeirão Pires, São Lourenço da Serra and Taboão da Serra.

Anyone who does not make the announcement will not be entitled to the meal, so as not to miss those who asked for it and also to avoid waste.

Lunch will be served between 11am and 1:30pm. The team of nutritionists from the Tarcísio de Freitas (Republican) administration prepares menu suggestions for school meals and forwards it to education boards and schools.

“Our school teams, including cooks, chefs and management team, are ready and oriented about lunch during the holidays. We are waiting for parents and families to respond so that we can prepare school meals, and maintain access to food even outside of school hours “, says Nayla Veríssimo, technical director of the School Food Department of Education in SP.

According to the ministry, during the July recess this year, schools served more than 160,000 meals, in a project that inspired the opening of schools during the January school holidays.
