São Paulo de Olivença will receive support from the Company, aiming at promoting sustainable fishing in the region
Manaus (AM) – The Development Company of the State of Amazonas (Ciama) received, this Thursday (17), a delegation led by Mayor Nazareno Martins, representing São Paulo de Olivença (985 kilometers from Manaus). The meeting addressed development strategies for the municipality, including the search for resources from national and international institutions to encourage sustainable fishing for pirarucu, which is a promising economic activity in that area of Alto Solimões.
Aluizio Barbosa, president of Ciama, highlighted the Company’s commitment to offering support to city halls in the interior, at no cost to the municipalities, covering several areas of activity. He assured support to face this new challenge, stating: “Our current mission is to secure the necessary resources to optimize and organize the efforts already underway in São Paulo de Olivença in the field of fisheries.”
According to data presented by Mayor Nazareno, São Paulo de Olivença currently includes 120 indigenous communities involved in fishing management, benefiting 5,591 families and covering a population of 37,060 people.
“We already have the whole project drawn up and we count on this support from Ciama to be able to develop fishing, taking into account participatory community monitoring, with greater control in the exploitation of fishing resources, seeking the recovery and sustainability of natural stocks, thus guaranteeing , the food security of all indigenous people in our region and the residents of the municipal headquarters”
