Amapá will host the largest innovation and technology event in the world, Startup20, promoted by the Brazilian Association of Startups (Abstartups) in partnership with the State Government. The event, held for the first time in Brazil, will bring together from February 23rd to 26th, at Sebrae, in Macapá, authorities and representatives from several countries to debate innovative alternatives for the planet.

The global initiative, which had its first edition in India in 2023, is part of the actions of the Startup 20 Engagement Group, which is part of the G20, an international organization of the world’s largest economies, which also includes other nations from the European and African Union.

The world meeting in Amapá already has 15 confirmed delegations: India, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Bagladesh, Canada, Spain, United States, France, Indonesia, Oman, Portugal, Switzerland, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.

For the governor of Amapá, Clécio Luís, the meeting will give visibility to the region as a whole, both in terms of business for the public and private sector, as well as the importance of the topic of technology and bioeconomy to boost local development.

“Startup20 is an opportunity to show the world the great potential we have, ranging from innovative businesses to a unique tourism sector. Furthermore, the event strengthens the government’s policy to consolidate major events as a strategic action for the development of the state”said the governor.

For the president of Abstartups, Ingrid Barth, Startup20 is more than a meeting of leaders and authorities, it is one of the biggest windows of opportunity to give visibility to the great evolution of Brazilian entrepreneurship, and also to enable more business opportunities with ecosystems and national and international investors.

“When representatives of the largest nations in the world come together, we have a unique moment to show the evolution of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country, establish strategic partnerships to leverage our companies, whether technology-based or not, and even look for ways to increase the financial flow between the G20 countries. It is a range of opportunities that are being strengthened, which if well used, could transform Brazil, leaving an important legacy”said the president.

The four-day program includes debates on macroeconomics and the region’s potential development, with panels and conversations on innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as technical visits to universities and research centers in Amapá. In the plenary sessions, topics such as governance and compliance in startups, the future of ESG in startups, diversity, inclusion and regulation of Artificial Intelligence, among others, will be addressed.

The president of the Sebrae Amapá Deliberative Council, Josiel Alcolumbre, highlighted the need for partnerships to foster the innovation ecosystem, small businesses and startups in the Amazon.

“For us at Sebrae in Amapá, it is a source of great honor and recognition to host an international event like Startup20 at our headquarters. This partnership provides a showcase for more than 100 entrepreneurs in the Amapá Bioeconomy, effectively demonstrating the strength of our innovation ecosystem”, he said.
