This Good Friday (7), the 64th edition of the Passion of Christ takes place in Morro da Cruz, in the east of Porto Alegre. The program begins at 2:30 pm with a mass at the São José do Murialdo Sanctuary. At 3:30 pm, the staging begins, followed by the procession and the auto de fé, with a large cast of professional artists. Residents of the neighborhood will also be at the event, including Roman soldiers and inhabitants of Palestine. Students from the Restinga neighborhood will participate in the scene of Christ’s miracles. The event is in line with the 2023 Fraternity Campaign, with the theme “Fraternity and Hunger”.

The event takes place in front of the church, on Rua 1º de Março, on the corner of Vidal de Negreiros, followed by a procession for more than 1.5 kilometers to the top of Morro da Cruz, where the last moments of the life of Jesus Christ are enacted, ended with the crucifixion and his resurrection.

News – Among the news this year are some scenes, such as the resurrection of Lazarus and the one in which Jesus saves the woman who would be stoned (in reference to violence against women). There will also be a tribute to Pope Francis, for the 10 years of his pontificate. Eight dancers from Cia Municipal de Dança de Porto Alegre will also participate in four choreographic interventions.

It was carried out by the Decentralization Coordination of the Municipal Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of Porto Alegre, in partnership with the São José de Murialdo Sanctuary.
