Laws reinforce the importance of the formative nature of sport in society

Manaus (AM) — As a way to encourage sports, February 19th was chosen to be celebrated in Brazil as Sportsman’s Day. And, on this date, state deputy Roberto Cidade, president of the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), highlights laws of his authorship that reinforce the importance of the formative nature of sport in society.

One of them is Law No. 6,442/2023, which recognizes the educational and training nature of Jiu-Jitsu in the State of Amazonas. The measure allows the State Department of Education (Seduc) to include the teaching of jiu-jitsu as a continuous activity in the state public education network, which can be integrated into the school’s pedagogical proposal, to promote the development of students.

“Jiu-jitsu is a complete physical activity that improves physical conditioning and contributes to a healthy and active life. In addition to the physical benefits, jiu-jitsu also provides significant mental and emotional development. The practice involves improving concentration, discipline and emotional control. Jiu-jitsu promotes values ​​such as respect, ethics and self-confidence, forming responsible and resilient citizens. By recognizing jiu-jitsu as an educational practice, we are strengthening its role in preventing violence and promoting a culture of peace,”

The Law also establishes September 14th as “State Jiu-Jitsu Day”. Activities must be carried out on the date that demonstrate the importance of sport for the formation of an individual’s character and personality.

Protection

With regard to the protection of children and adolescents, the deputy president is the author of Law No. 6,573/2023, which establishes protocols to prevent and combat harassment and child abuse in training clubs and sports academies.

According to the Law, training clubs and sports academies must prepare a protocol to prevent and combat child abuse and harassment, which will be registered with the bodies that provide operating licenses and will be available on their premises.

“The implementation of measures to protect children and adolescents against sexual abuse and exploitation in clubs and gyms is an urgent issue. Our Law reinforces the Pelé and Joanna Maranhão laws, which also aim to inhibit these crimes. These legal provisions are fundamental to guarantee the protection of children and adolescents who participate in sporting activities and to punish those who commit sexual abuse and violence. At the state level, the device favors inspection, complaints and, consequently, punishments”,

he stated.

According to the proposal, the protocol must contain guidelines such as the identification and assessment of the risks of child abuse and harassment; procedures to prevent and combat child abuse and harassment; policy for communicating and reporting child abuse and harassment; training and qualification of professionals and volunteers involved in sports initiation and practice.

In addition, training clubs and academies must require all professionals and volunteers involved in the initiation and practice of sports for children and adolescents to present a criminal record certificate annually, and training clubs and sports academies must maintain an ombudsman to receive reports of abuse. of children and adolescents, guaranteeing the confidentiality and protection of complainants.

The Ombudsman’s Office must be available to the public on its premises and have an online reporting channel.
