In an act, the former president admitted knowledge of the draft decree
Jair Bolsonaro’s speech this Sunday (25) afternoon on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, will be evaluated by the Federal Police team investigating the attempted coup d’état after the 2022 elections, when the former president was defeated. The information was confirmed by Agência Brasil by sources linked to the investigation.
In his speech last Sunday, Jair Bolsonaro admitted knowledge of a draft that provided for the declaration of a state of siege, the arrest of parliamentarians and STF ministers and supported an alleged coup d’état. But he criticized the PF’s criminal investigations into this draft. The ex-president’s admission contrasts with his stance in testimony last Thursday (22) to the PF, when he remained silent in the face of the investigators’ questions.
A search and seizure operation by the PF in January last year located in the home of Anderson Torres, former Minister of Justice in the Bolsonaro government, a text in draft format that provided for intervention in the Judiciary to prevent the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and calling for new elections. The draft was also cited in the statements of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former aide-de-camp of the Presidency of the Republic.
Bolsonaro is being investigated by the Federal Police (PF) and the STF regarding the January 8, 2023 attack on the headquarters of the Três Poderes in Brasília. There are also other elements that are being investigated, such as the video of a meeting held at the Palácio da Alvorada in July 2022. At the time, direct assistants to the former president and a group of military personnel suggested alternative attacks on the electronic electoral system and the election 2022 presidential election.
