SP+B announces proposals for a sustainable São Paulo – 11/08/2023 – Folha Social+

More than one hundred organizations and companies from different sectors came together to study and implement measures that contribute to the sustainable development of São Paulo through the SP+B project.

The initiative is part of the global Cidades+B movement, which presented this Wednesday (8) 12 projects with practical actions to improve the lives of São Paulo residents.

Headed by Sistema B, which certifies companies committed to a more inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy, SP+B held a series of multi-sectoral innovation laboratories.

The objective was to engage the private sector in challenges related to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

Over the course of ten months, proposals were co-created around 5 thematic axes: housing, circular economy, mobility, work and income and food security. (See all the actions below).

The meetings included the collaboration of experts on each topic: Instituto Vivenda em Habitação, popular agency Solano Trindade in Food Security, Insper in Mobilidade, FGVcenn in Work and Income and Exchange4Change Brasil and Ellen Macarthur Foundation in Circular Economy.

Launched in São Paulo, in January, the project has support from Gerdau, Instituto Center Norte, Movida, Nespresso, Diagonal and Combio. The execution was carried out by Cause, Labora and Up Lab.

“We had the opportunity to contribute with solutions in two main axes, housing and circular economy, which are pillars of our social action strategy”, says Paulo Boneff, social responsibility leader at Gerdau.

The housing theme gained focus on offering training aimed at community leaders to help with the planned expansion of their communities. In circular economy, the city has planned a project to encourage local commerce in the north zone.

Among the solutions for the mobility, work and income axes are the creation of indicators that encourage the use of different types of transport and the creation of empoderatech, a job training program.

The focus on food security resulted, among other measures, in an initiative to strengthen urban farmers to attract and retain young workers.

“The project allowed us to transform urban challenges into opportunities for sustainable growth. The movement aims to remodel São Paulo, based on the protagonism of its residents for economic and social well-being”, explains Rodrigo Santini, executive director of Sistema B.

After presenting the practical actions, the City of São Paulo must study which measures can be implemented in line with existing public policies.

In a note, the municipal administration states that its participation in the project reinforces its work in the areas covered.

Santiago, Barcelona, ​​Asunción, Mendoza and Paris La Defénse are already part of the Cities+B movement, in addition to Rio de Janeiro, which piloted the program in 2016.
