The anti-racism campaign “One skin”, in support of Brazilian striker Vinicius Júnior, was officially launched this Tuesday (13) in Madrid, in a meeting with the presidents of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, and the CBF , Ednaldo Rodrigues. During the meeting it was revealed that the friendly match between Brazil and Spain, in March 2024, one of the actions planned by the movement to combat racism, will take place at Real Madrid’s stadium, the Santiago Bernabéu. On the last day 21, Vini Jr. was the target of racist attacks for the 10th time in La Liga. The insults were hurled in Real’s 2-1 loss to Valencia.

“We want to demonstrate that we are in this together and that there is a magnificent relationship between the two associations. Football was invented to be enjoyed, to transmit values, for people to have fun and not for negative things like generating violence, much less giving space to people who use football as a shield to transmit something negative like a racist insult or any type of violence,” said Rubiales.

The directors’ meeting takes place one day after the presentation of the squad for the Brazilian national team in Barcelona, where the team will face Guinea next Saturday (17th), at 4:30 pm (Brasília time), in the first of two FIFA Data friendlies – the second it will be three days later, against Senegal, in Lisbon (Portugal).

The president of the CBF defended more energetic actions by the soccer authorities to curb the crime of racism. He cited as an example the penalties adopted by the entity in February this year.

“Fines are not enough. Clubs also need to be held accountable. The CBF was the first football federation to adopt tougher sanctions for cases of racism, such as the reduction of points in the championship classification, closure of stands or lifetime expulsion”, detailed Ednaldo Rodrigues. “We need to lead a worldwide campaign to fight this virus that puts everyone in football to shame.”

On the weekend following the racist insults against Vini Jr. in Spain, the CBF promoted the campaign “With racism there is no game” with actions to combat racial prejudice in all games of the eighth round of the Brasileirão – from 27 to 28 May.

“There is no place for racist insults in our football,” emphasized Rubiales. “It is intolerable that events like what happened to Valencia take place in our country.”
