Fifa evaluates three stadiums for the Club World Cup at the end of the year – News of Brazil

Three stadiums in Saudi Arabia are competing to host the Club World Cup, to be played in the country between December 12 and 22, 2023. Manchester City (ING), champion of the Champions League, and the winner of the current Copa Libertadores , which has six Brazilians in the dispute, will participate in the competition.
The organization of the tournament intends to hold the seven matches in two stadiums. FIFA representatives recently visited three options presented, all in Riyadh, the country’s capital:
- King Fahd International Stadium (67,000 spectator capacity)
- Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium (28,000 spectators)
- King Saud University Stadium (25,000 spectators)
King Fahd, the stadium with the largest capacity, is set to host the final and City’s semi-final match. In January of this year, he received the Spanish Super Cup, with the title of Barcelona. The question is regarding the second equipment to be chosen.
Prince Faisal has been used mainly for Al-Hilal matches, which were in the last Club World Cup, played in February 2023 in Morocco – and eliminated Flamengo in the semifinal. Hilal recently unsuccessfully tried to sign star Lionel Messi.
Al-Nassr, team of the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, has been playing lately at the KSU Stadium, which has its own administration and has undergone recent renovations. It is considered more modern, with better changing room facilities than the Prince Faisal. He is therefore favored to be the second option.
Al-Nassr narrowly missed out on qualifying as the host country’s representative for the competition. It ended up in second place in the Saudi Championship, behind Al-Ittihad, who will play in the World Cup – and who recently signed striker Benzema, formerly of Real Madrid.
Six teams have already qualified for the 2023 Club World Cup:
- Manchester City (England) – Europe
- León (Mexico) – North and Central America
- Al-Ahly (Egypt) – Africa
- Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan) – Asia
- Auckland City (New Zealand) – Oceania
- Al-Ittihad (Saudi Arabia) – host country
The only thing missing is the definition of the representative of South America, who will be known in November as the Libertadores champion. Six Brazilians still have a chance of lifting the cup (Corinthians are already eliminated).

This may be the last Club World Cup in this format with seven clubs, held by Fifa since 2005. The entity’s management confirmed that from 2025, probably in North America, it will hold a competition with a new format, which will have 32 competitors.
Palmeiras and Flamengo, who won Libertadores in 2021 and 2022, respectively, already have a guaranteed place in this turbocharged competition.
