Solidarity expels lawyer of one of those arrested by 8/1 for offending STF
The Solidariedade party decided to expel lawyer Hery Kattwinkel Júnior from the party alleging that the defender had “attacked the Supreme Court” during the defense of defendant Thiago de Assis Mathar, convicted by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) this Thursday (14) at 14 years in prison for involvement in the acts of vandalism on January 8th.
During the trial, the lawyer questioned whether the STF was acting in a “legal or political” manner and ended up getting confused by referring to a quote from the book The Prince, by Machiavelli, as if it were from The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry .
“Is this trial being legal or political, in order to incriminate someone else for an objective that we cannot understand? Because it looks like they are being used, as you say The little Prince: the ends justify the means, and we can bypass them all. Machiavelli: the ends justify the means”, said the lawyer to the STF.
Through an official note, the party leadership in Votuporanga-SP said that it “does not agree with the professional’s stance in attacking the Supreme Court, even in the exercise of his prerogative as a constituted defender.”
According to the caption, the lawyer went beyond the exercise of his role’s prerogatives and “exceeded the limits of the law”‘. “We decided to expel the member, reiterating our respect for Brazilian laws, our commitment to Democracy and respect for Brazilian public institutions”, wrote Solidariedade.
The lawyer’s statements were criticized by minister Alexandre de Moraes during the trial. “It is pathetic and mediocre that a lawyer stands on the stand of the Federal Supreme Court with a hate speech, a speech to post on social media, perhaps intending to be a councilor in his municipality next year”, he criticized.
