Social movement leaders have spoken to ministers and other representatives of the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government to press for Inês Magalhães to remain in the vice-presidency of Housing at Caixa Econômica Federal.

The PT management fired Rita Serrano and handed over control of Caixa to career civil servant Carlos Vieira, who was appointed by the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL). The agreement also involves appointments from the center to the bank’s 12 vice-presidencies.

In conversations with ministers Alexandre Padilha (Institutional Relations), Márcio Macedo (General Secretariat of the Presidency), and with Marco Aurélio Ribeiro, Lula’s chief of staff, and Gleisi Hoffmann, president of the PT, the representatives of the movements said that the vice -Housing presidency is too strategic to be under the command of someone appointed by the center.

In her sector, Inês Magalhães takes care of Minha Casa, Minha Vida, especially the Entities modality, which has constant dialogue with movements fighting for housing.

PT members also defend the permanence of Magalhães, who enjoys the president’s trust. Therefore, Lira’s allies believe that it is possible that the president of the Chamber will accept her continuation in the position for the time being.
