The Municipality of Macapá prepares a new suitable place for the Skate modality. The head of the municipal executive branch, Dr. This Saturday (5) Furlan signed the work order. The venue will have maneuvering areas, bleachers and security for athletes.
“The work is an old request from sports practitioners in the state and was designed with the help of athletes so that we could offer the best possible space”, said the mayor of Macapá, Dr. Furlan.
On the occasion, the mayor also announced that the venue will pay homage to Francisco da Silva Vilhena Júnior, the “Francisco Barateiro”, a young skater victim at the age of 36, of COVID-19, in 2021.
The Municipal Secretariat of Works and Urban Infrastructure (Semob) will be in charge of executing the services. The work relies on R$ 1.5 million in a parliamentary amendment forwarded by Senator Randolfe Rodrigues, plus the counterpart from the municipal treasury.
“This partnership is extremely important to strengthen the sport, provide leisure and invest directly in potential athletes for our state” said Senator Randolfe Rodrigues.
Jefferson Moutinho, 47 years old, is a sports practitioner and celebrates the work that will benefit beginner athletes. “It’s great to know that young people who are new to the sport will have a place to train. That appreciation makes all the difference in building an athlete,” he said.
The venue will have a grandstand containing 4 steps, a covered stage (with bathroom) and skate circuits for beginners, semi-professionals and professionals, with obstacles that interact with each other and transactions above three meters.
It will also have street elements that convey existing obstacles on the city’s sidewalks, with the representation of handrails through metal bars, ramps and curbs. The proposal complies with the current normative sets. With 1,024 square meters of built area, the space will be able to bring together approximately 200 practitioners of the sport.
More investments in sport and leisure
On April 29, 2023, the new Glicério marques, known as the “giant of the favela”, was reopened as a sports complex. Recently, in July, the venue hosted Macapá summer 2023.
The environment has spaces such as an athletics track, a skate park, a swimming pool, sports courts, a climbing wall and a dance and fight block. The new location includes 30 sports, including Olympic, Paralympic, collective and individual sports.
