The Manta-Manaus multimodal axis is an alternative route, which allows integration of the Amazon with the Pacific Ocean

Manaus (AM) — Deputy Sinésio Campos (PT) announced, on Thursday (4), during a speech at the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), the arrival of two ministers from the Lula Government to Amazonas, on April 9, to launch the axis multimodal Manta-Manaus. The Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, and the Minister of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes, will be in Tabatinga (1,108 kilometers away from Manaus).

The official visit is part of South American integration efforts, a priority of the Federal Government, which seeks to strengthen ties between South American countries and boost the region’s economic and social development.

The Manta-Manaus axis was one of the five priority integration projects chosen by the Federal Government, which have a total investment forecast of 10 billion dollars, with resources assured through the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC).

Manta-Manaus

The Manta-Manaus multimodal axis is an alternative route, which allows integration of the Amazon with the Pacific Ocean, without depending on the Panama Canal. According to the proposal, the merchandise is transported by ship or ferry from Asia to the port of Manta, in Ecuador. It is then sent by road to Providência, also in Ecuador, followed by ferries to Letícia, in Colombia. It then passes through the port of Tabatinga until reaching the port of Manaus.

Today, with the route that uses the Panama Canal, transporting products from Asia takes 41 to 60 days. With the route via Manta, the duration is now 31 to 35 days, a reduction of up to 25 days on the route, reducing logistical costs.

The new route should increase the competitiveness of products manufactured in the Manaus Industrial Complex (PIM), as part of the inputs used are imported from Asia.

Tabatinga was chosen as one of the strategic points for the project, as it is located in the Brazil-Colombia-Peru triple border area.

According to deputy Sinésio Campos, the presence of the Federal Revenue Service at the port of Tabatinga is necessary to facilitate the flow of goods.

“Tabatinga is in a strategic area, being suffraged, and is authorized to have duty-free shops. Now, we need the port to be bonded, to allow the transit of goods that come from abroad and can reach Manaus. With the Federal Government’s decision to prioritize the Manta-Manaus axis, we will have a stimulus for the development of the municipality, which needs these economic alternatives to keep our young people away from violence”,

declared the parliamentarian.

Campos also highlighted the importance of the presence of ministers in the region and highlighted the benefits that the Manta-Manaus axis will bring, not only to Amazonas, but to all of South America. He recalled that he has defended the integration model for more than 15 years through the Manta-Manaus project.

“This visit is a significant milestone for regional development and the consolidation of cooperation ties between neighboring countries. There are nine countries that border the Brazilian Amazon. Strengthening ties with our neighbors can generate new business opportunities”,

said the deputy.
