Minister Silvio Almeida, head of the federal government’s Human Rights portfolio, chose not to speak after President Lula’s (PT) warm welcome to the Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, whose government is marked by various violations of democracy, human rights and to individual freedoms.

In a friendly atmosphere and with irony to the accusations of violations committed by the dictator, who arrived in Brazil this Monday (29) to participate in the summit of South American leaders, Lula went so far as to say that such accusations would be a “narrative in the world of that in Venezuela there is no democracy and that he [Maduro] made mistakes”.
